On the afternoon of New Years’s Day 2023, Daniel Elmer Libby of Fellsburg, Kansas passed away at his home surrounded by his loved ones at the age of 71. Dan was born in Smith Center, Ks to Randall and Jean Libby, February 28, 1951 and raised on the family farm. He was well known in the county for his love of fast cars, especially his 1965 GTO. In 1971, Dan received his mechanics degree from NCK Tech Beloit and enjoyed that vocation until he found his calling working with cattle and farming until eventually working for Mull Farms for 30 years.
On New Year’s Eve 1970, Dan met the love of his life and announced that night to his mother that he had met the woman he was gonna marry. One year and one week later, he did just that when he married Helen Deibert in Esbon, Ks on January 8th 1972. Dan and Helen were so blessed to celebrate their 50th anniversary last year with all their friends and family. From that union came four children Travis, Chandra, Kimberly and Angelina, and then 11 grandchildren followed. Those children and grandchildren were privileged to witness that love story that lasted 52 years and one day.
Dan loved to gab about anything and nothing for hours, especially if that nothing happened to be nature or hunting related. He was an avid hunter, trapper and fisherman and loved to share that interest with family and friends alike. Oh, the tales he had to tell as tears rolled in laughter!
Dan is survived by his wife, Helen of Fellsburg, son Travis (Angelique) Libby of Haviland, Ks, and 3 daughters Chandra (Matt) Francis of Fellsburg, Kimberly Blass (Daryl) of Belpre, Ks and Angelina (Hector) Torres of Fellsburg, eleven grandchildren; Rosalee Libby, Lucinda Libby, Kelsi (Jace) Bender, Eli Francis, Blaiz Libby, Secylla Blass (Jonah), Brady Blass, Camron Torres, Samuel Torres, Esmeralda Torres, and Grace Torres, and sister Deanna Newberry of Hays, Ks, along with many Deibert in-laws, nieces, nephews and countless cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Randall and Jean Libby and his brother-in-law Larry Newberry.
Memorial services and celebration of Dan’s life will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, January 7th, 2023 at Trousdale Community Church, Trousdale, Kansas with pastor Carey Haner presiding. Private family inurnment will be at a future date in Fellsburg Cemetery.
