Greensburg- Donfred Charles Banta, 94, died January 17, 2015 at his daughter’s home in Schulenburg, Texas. He was born December 21, 1920 in Greensburg, Kansas, the son of Charles Lewis and Pearl Regina (Thompson) Banta. Don had lived in Greensburg, Abeline, Kansas, Paris, Tennessee, and Portland, Indiana. He graduated from Greensburg High School in 1938. He was employed in pipeline operations and construction. Don was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Paris, Tennessee, the American Quarter Horse Association, V.F.W., American Legion, the National Square Dancers Association and attended the West Walnut Street Church of Christ, Portland, Indiana. On August 20, 1941 Don married Beulah Carr in Greensburg. She survives and lives in Portland, Indiana. Other survivors include two sons Ron Banta and wife Wendy and Randy Banta, all of Greensburg, Two daughters Suzanne Smith and husband Jim, Paris, Tennessee, Candi Decker, Schulenburg, Texas, two brothers Frank C. Banta and Kenny Banta and wife Peggy, all of Greensburg, nine Grandchildren and fifteen Great-grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by a son Rodney Bill Banta, a sister Evon Boyles, and three Grandchildren Tamara, Dwayne and Charlie Don. Funeral services and celebration of Don’s life will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 24, 2015 at the Greensburg Christian Church with Pastor Keith Dellenbach officiating. A visitation will be held 5:00-7:00p.m. Friday at Fleener Funeral Home, Greensburg.
