Greensburg-Ella Mae Marrs, 94, was born December 31, 1929, in Fowler, Kansas to Chester I. and Edith Susan (Brock) Marrs. Ella Mae graduated from Fowler High School in 1947. She married Wm. Leon Deckert November 20, 1947. Two children were born to Ella Mae and Leon, son, Wm. Gordon and daughter, Susan Lynne. Both children suffered from an incurable brain disease, predeceasing Ella Mae and Leon in 1958 and 1960. Leon died February 20, 2001. Ella Mae married Marion L. Marrs, November 17, 2001, at Lake Tahoe, California. Marion died April 23, 2023. She was a seamstress, making many of her outfits. She also provided her skills to the community of Greensburg from 1961. Ella Mae was also an artist throughout her life. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Greensburg; United Methodist Women; V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary; American Legion Auxiliary; and Daughters of the American Revolution, Dodge City Chapter. She volunteered at area long term care homes sharing her puppets and playing her washboard along with other musicians since 1976. Ella Mae and Leon began spending winters in south Texas in 1977 until Leon’s death in 2001. She and Marion continued the tradition of wintering in south Texas from 2004 through 2023. Ella Mae thoroughly enjoyed being on the go, playing games and visiting with other south Texas winter residents. Ella Mae is survived by a host of nieces and nephews and extended family and friends. Funeral service and celebration of Ella Mae’s life will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 22, 2024 at the Greensburg Methodist Church, Greensburg, with Pastor Scott Rose presiding. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Greensburg. Memorials may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Shriners of Wichita, Kiowa County Senior Center or Greensburg Methodist Church in care of Fleener Funeral Home, PO Box 41, Greensburg, KS 67054.
