Hutchinson- Ferne Marie Mitchum, 88, died October 8, 2013 at the Hospice House of Hutchinson. She was born July 18, 1925 on a farmstead North of Haviland, Kansas, the daughter of Omer and Gertrude (Dinius) Binford. Ferne graduated from Haviland High School in 1943 and attended Adela-Hale Business School, Hutchinson. She was the owner/operator of Binford Appliance of Greensburg, Kansas, retiring in 1983. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, V.F.W. Auxiliary, a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star-Star of Hope chapter #193 where she had served as Past Worthy Matron and District Aide, and the Cannonball and Carey Park Golf Clubs and Countryside Baptist Church, Hutchinson. Ferne had lived in Haviland, Lanett, Alabama, Greensburg from 1950-2001, then to Hutchinson to be near her daughter. On October 6, 1945, Ferne married R. Stanley Mitchum in San Diego, California. He preceded her in death October 27, 1993. She is survived by a daughter Faith Brooks and husband Lerry D. and a Grandson Brian Robertson and wife Le Ann, all of Hutchinson and a Great-grandson Kyle Robertson and wife Jenny, Wamego, Kansas. Graveside funeral services and Celebration of Ferne’s life will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 11, 2013 in Fairview Cemetery, Greensburg, with Rev. Franklin Ruff officiating.
