Greensburg – Gerald Dean Morehead, 85, died September 24, 2021 at the Kiowa County Memorial Hospital. He was born December 30, 1935 in Anthony, Kansas the son of Herbert Wayne and Molly Wanda (Wilson) Morehead. Gerald attended Greensburg High School. He had lived in Anthony, Kansas; Pampa, Texas; Wichita, Kansas; Seattle, Washington; Kingsdown, Kansas; and, Greensburg. Gerald was a cowboy and had worked as foreman/farmer for the Pyle Ranch/End-Wrench Cattle Company for twenty-five years, a co-owner of the Kansan Restaurant for twenty years, a carpenter for Jerry Koehn Construction, and later worked as the greenskeeper at the Cannonball Golf Course, all in Greensburg. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Dodge City, Kansas (35 years), co-founder of the Triangle Rodeo Club, and he served on the Kiowa County 4-H Fair Board, and the Cannonball Golf Course Board. Gerald served in the U.S. Army. His hobbies included golfing, watching old westerns and rodeos, attending his Grandchildren’s sporting events, and telling stories. On March 28, 1959, Gerald married Lois Edwards in Wichita, Kansas. She preceded him in death on July 22, 2017. He is survived by two sons: Bryan (Cinda) Morehead and Rocky (Michele) Morehead, all of Greensburg; a daughter Terra Morehead (Dennis Davis), Kansas City, Kansas; seven grandchildren – Cheyenne Morehead (Will Munsell), Lymon Morehead, Gerald Morehead, Dalton Morehead (Kassadee Harris), Chelsi (Matt Entz), Nicki Mayes, and Cody Mayes; three Great-grandchildren Wilder Munsell, Hadley Entz and Holly Koehn; a sister – Wanda Jones (Clarence “Pee Wee”), Laverne, Oklahoma. Countless others fondly referred to Gerald as “Grandad”. He was preceded in death by his father Herbert Morehead; mother Molly Nix; and two sisters – Leatha and husband Al “Corky” King, and Sue and husband Layton Gleason. A memorial service and Celebration of Gerald’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 1, 2021, at the Greensburg Mennonite Church with Rev. Jeffrey D. Blackburn officiating. A double inurnment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Greensburg. Memorials are suggested to the Cannonball Golf Course, and the Kiowa County Senior Center, in care of Fleener Funeral Home, PO Box 41, Greensburg, Kansas 67054.
