Gloria Susan (Weese) Taaffe

d. February 1, 2019

Greensburg- Gloria Susan Taaffe, 59, died February 1, 2019. She was born July 3, 1959 in Pratt, Kansas, the daughter of Carl F., Sr. and Maria A. “Dora” (Espinosa) Weese. Gloria grew up in Greensburg, Kansas where she made many friends that she stayed in contact with throughout the years. In 1982 she graduated from Stormont Vail School of Nursing in Topeka, Kansas and started her long nursing career. Gloria married Steven J. Taaffe. They had one son John-Michael W. Taaffe in November 1984. They moved to Wichita in 1989, and to Leander, Texas in 2007. Gloria held various positions during her 30 plus years as a nurse, with the majority spent as a cancer nurse. She touched many families’ lives and gave compassionate personal care to all her patients. Gloria was honored to carry on the family tradition as her mother was also a nurse. Gloria had a strong relationship with God and was active in her church attending Sunday Mass and singing in the choir. She was an avid dog lover with a special place in her heart for her Minature Schnauzers. Even though she lived in Texas, Gloria was still a Kansas girl with a deep passion for Kansas Jayhawks basketball, something she shared with her son John. She is survived by her son John-Michael W. Taaffe and wife Shelly A. Kilpatrick, Austin, Texas, a brother Carl F. Weese, Jr. and wife Cheryl, Pratt, Kansas, ex-husband Steven J. Taaffe, Leander, Texas, a niece, Melanee Weese, three nephews, Tom, Todd and Tyler Weese, an aunt, Angelina Castaneda, Lewis, Kansas, and an uncle, Solomon “Salty” Espinosa, San Diego, California, and many relatives and friends. A memorial Mass was held 10:30 am February 22, 2019 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, Cedar Park, Texas. A memorial graveside service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, March 23, 2019 in Fairview Cemetery, Greensburg, with Ellen Peters presiding. Memorials are suggested to the Lone Star Dog Ranch and Dog Ranch Rescue, in care of Fleener Funeral Home, PO Box 41, Greensburg, Kansas 67054.
