Greensburg- Helen Ruth Schwarm, 100, died February 4, 2020 at Parkwood Village, Pratt, Kansas. She was born March 3, 1919 in Strong City, Kansas, the third of four children, to Maude Alice (Nickel) and Clyde Clinton Piester. Helen had lived on the family ranch near Belvidere, Kansas, rural Greensburg, and Pratt since 2007. She attended school at Croft, Kansas through the eighth grade, then attended Haviland High School graduating in 1937. She continued to Friends Bible College, Haviland and transferred to Northwestern Oklahoma State University, Alva, Oklahoma where she earned a teaching certificate. She was a homemaker and retired from teaching in Kiowa County Schools. Helen’s memberships include the Order of the Eastern Star, Star of Hope Chapter for over 75 years, the First United Methodist Church, Greensburg, V.F.W. Auxiliary, Tillers and Toilers E.H.U. and the Thimbleena Club. On January 11, 1948 Helen married Leonard Schwarm in Greensburg. They were married 64 years at the time of his death on April 7, 2012. She is survived by two sons Steve and wife Lena Schwarm, Olathe, Kansas and Mark and wife Velda Schwarm, Hutchinson and Greensburg, Kansas, one Granddaughter Kellen and husband Andrew Liebsch, Westmoreland, Kansas and two Great grandchildren Madelyn and Tyler Liebsch. Funeral services and celebration of Helen’s life will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 8, 2020 in the First United Methodist Church, Greensburg with Pastor Chu presiding. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Greensburg. A visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday at the church.
