James David Thompson

Greensburg- James David Thompson, 89, died November 1, 2014, at his home in Greensburg, Kansas. He was born January 17, 1925 in Nickerson, Kansas, the son of Henry and Mary (Boak) Thompson. He was later raised by Cliff and Verna Shandrew. He lived in Iuka and Greensburg. A World War II Veteran, Jim served in the U.S. Navy, stationed in the south Pacific in 1944-1945. He was employed as a maintenance worker and operator at Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company retiring after 38 years. He was a member of VFW, American Legion, Kiowa County Senior Center and the Greensburg Christian Church. On September 12, 1944 Jim married Ruby Fry in Pratt. She survives. Other survivors include two sons Phil Thompson and wife Harvelan, Amarillo, Texas, Jim Thompson and wife Rhonda, Ford, Kansas, a daughter Arlene Brown, Coldwater, Kansas, a half-brother Donald Thompson and wife Sarah, Cheyenne, Wyoming, eleven Grandchildren and numerous Great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a Grandson Michael Brown, two Great-grandsons Adam Cramer and Eddie Grover, son-in -law Odell Brown, two brothers Hank and Robert Thompson and four sisters Irene Garvin, Dorothy Laird, Donna Hansen and Janie Nissen. Funeral Service and celebration of Jim’s life will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at the Greensburg Christian Church with Rev. Carl Helm officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Greensburg. A visitation will be 5:00-7:00 Tuesday at Fleener Funeral Home, Greensburg.
