John W. Rosenberger

Greensburg/Pratt- John Walter Rosenberger, 85, died July 7,2016 at Pratt Rehab and Resident Center Pratt, Kansas. He was born January 2, 1931 at the farm home in Kiowa County, the son of William Arthur and Ethel May (Koch) Rosenberger. John graduated from Greensburg High School in 1949, and attended Kansas State University. He practiced his love of farming was a good steward of the soil all his life. He was a third generation farmer. On August 26, 1951 John married LaVerne Estella Dewees at the Sedgwick Methodist Church, Sedgwick, Kansas. In 2007, the farmstead was destroyed by a tornado and John & LaVerne moved to Pratt. John was a member of Greensburg Christian Church, Kiowa County Farm Bureau, Kiowa County United, and Odd Fellow Lodge. He served on Kiowa County Farm Bureau Board, Greensburg School Board, Farmers Grain and Supply and Big Bend Groundwater Management Board #5. John is survived by his wife LaVerne, sons Dale (Sue) Rosenberger, Hotchkiss, Colorado, John L. Rosenberger, Cedaredge, Colorado and daughter Susan (Randy) Lueth, Salina, Kansas, nine grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and many friends. John had a great love for farming and followed his friends and neighbors with their farming for years after he retired. He also loved gardening, fishing and camping, love and honor for his country, baseball, football, playing cards and dominoes and coffee with friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Lucille Whipps and Lois Neier, two brother-in-laws Loren Whipps and Irving Neier, granddaughter Miranda and many beloved friends. Visitation will be 5 to 7pm Monday July 11, 2016 at Fleener Funeral Home, 514 S. Main, Greensburg. Funeral and celebration of John’s life will be 10:30 am Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at the Greensburg Christian Church, 1210 S. Main, Greensburg with Carl Helm officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Greensburg. Memorials are suggested to the Greensburg Christian Church and Kiowa County Library, Greensburg in care of Fleener Funeral Home 514 S.
