Greensburg—LaVerne Estella Dewees Rosenberger, 92, died February 26th, 2022 at Salina Regional Health Center, Salina, Ks. She was born May 22nd, 1929 in Sedgewick, Ks, the daughter of Wallace and Mable (Fulkerson) Dewees. At the age of 5, LaVerne lost a 13 year old sister. They were very close and LaVerne always grieved that loss and wondered of growing up with an older sister.
LaVerne grew up on a farm in Harvey County, graduating from Sedgwick High School in 1947. She attended Kansas State University and Friends University, receiving a teaching certificate. LaVerne came to Greensburg as a 3rd grade teacher in 1949. All of her student’s enjoyed her as much as she loved teaching them.
On August 26th, 1951, LaVerne married John W. Rosenberger at Sedgwick Methodist Church, Sedgwick. She then became a farmer’s wife. In 2007, the farmstead was destroyed by a tornado and they moved to Pratt. LaVerne also enjoyed other jobs working at the ASCS office, City Floral, Greensburg State Bank, Hayse Greenhouse, Owned and Operated Butterfly Boutique- ladies ready to wear and gave piano lessons. In 2020, LaVerne moved to Arbor Court Retirement Home, Salina to be closer to her daughter. LaVerne continued to play piano there and meet new friends over coffee.
LaVerne was a member of Greensburg Christian Church serving as organist for many years and serving on many committees, Just A Mere Club, FYI Club, Greensburg Chamber of Commerce serving as President for two years, Rebeka Lodge serving as Noble Grand, District Deputy and State Flag Bearer, Star of Hope OES #193 serving offices, state appointments, Worthy Grand Matron, Organist, and Daughters of the American Revolution.
LaVerne is survived by two sons Dale (Sue) Rosenberger of Hotchkiss, Colo., and John L. Rosenberger Cedaredge, Colo., daughter Susan (Randy) Lueth, Salina, Kansas; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and many friends.
LaVerne enjoyed gardening, counted cross-stitch, reading, travel, Genealogy, Dominoes when living in Greensburg, Pitch when living in Pratt, fishing with John and coffee with friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Wallace and Mable Dewees; husband John in 2016; sister Sarah Ellen Dewees; sister-in-laws Lucille Whipps and Lois Neier; brother-in-laws Loren Whipps and Irving Neier; granddaughter Miranda and many beloved friends.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday March 4th, at Fleener Funeral Home, 514 S. Main St., Greensburg.
Funeral and celebration of LaVerne’s life will be held 2:30 Saturday March 5th ,2022, at Greensburg Christian Church, 1210 S. Main, Greensburg, with Pastor Jon Harrison officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Greensburg.
