LIBERAL – Linda Joan (Shover) Payne, 76 died January 25, 2022, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri. She was born September 1, 1945 in Emporia, Kansas, the daughter of Marvel and Connie (Rinker) Shover. The family lived in Greensburg, Kansas from 1945-1953, then moved to Liberal, Kansas. Linda attended Wide-Awake County School through the 8th grade, then attended and graduated from Liberal High School in 1963. She was active member of 4-H and dance classes. She attended Fort Hays State College and Cosmetology School in Wichita, Kansas. She worked as a Hairdresser in Greensburg and Liberal. She also worked for Panhandle Eastern, then retired as a Librarian at McDermott Elementary School in 2017. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Liberal. On August 15, 1975, Linda married Paul Payne in Amarillo, Texas. From this union one son, Tyler, was born. Linda and Paul enjoyed all types of dancing and traveling. Linda enjoyed gardening, quilting, needlepoint and John Wayne movies. She is survived by her son, Tyler, daughter-in-law Tesh, Grandson Sean and Granddaughter Melysza Joan of Olathe, Kansas, two sisters Patti Ericks (Craig), Rapid City, South Dakota and Debbie Rosel (Steve) Shawnee, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul (2010); her parents Marvel and Connie Shover, in-laws S.J. and Oletha Payne. Visitation will be 10:00-11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Fleener Funeral Home, Greensburg, Kansas followed by a graveside service at 11:30 am at Fairview Cemetery, Greensburg with Rev.
