He was born September 27, 1964 in Ulysses, Kansas, the son of Oscar “Bud” and Vivian (Weber) Hayes. Moving from Alva, Oklahoma in 1977, Mike called Greensburg home. He graduated from Greensburg High School in 1983, and then worked for Carl Hayse Water Well Service, Dave Moyer and Kiowa County Road and Bridge. In October of 1998, he became the Superintendent of Streets and Parks for the City of Greensburg, remaining there 26 years. On July 12, 1986, Mike married his high school sweetheart, Lisa Koehn in Greensburg. To this union were born two children, Kimberlyn Nicole and Chase Michael. Kimberlyn was a true “Daddy’s Girl”. They shared their love for horses and the outdoors. Where daddy went, Kimberlyn was never far behind. Then came  along Chase Michael. Mike had the son he wanted to hunt and fish with, but their love of golf is where they spent most of their time together, playing many rounds. Mike’s favorite thing was to watch Chase play high school golf. Mike is survived by his wife Lisa, his children Kimberlyn and fiancé Jarrett Butler, Greensburg, Chase, Woodward, Oklahoma, one brother David Hayes and wife Sara, Fowler, Kansas, three sisters Sally Bush and husband George, Alva, Oklahoma, Charla Hayes and Sara Hayes, Guymon, Oklahoma, and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mike will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Memorial graveside services and celebration of Mike’s life will be 2:00pm Saturday, January 20, 2024, in Fairview Cemetery, Greensburg, with Rev. Jeffrey D. Blackburn officiating. A time of visiting with friends will follow in the Greensburg Mennonite Church, Greensburg.
