Michael J. Case

d. July 18, 2018

Greensburg- Michael James Case left this world for heaven on July 18, 2018 after a long battle with cancer. He was born April 5, 1951 in Phillipsburg, Kansas, the youngest of four sons born to Ralph Franklin and Arlene Olive (Miller) Case. He graduated from Phillipsburg High School in 1969 and eventually earned an Associate Degree from Kansas Technical Institute. Prior to college, Mike spent four years in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Okinawa and Guam during the Vietnam conflict. After his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Mike spent twenty one and a half years in the Air National Guard. He truly enjoyed his time in the military and had a deep respect for his country. Mike met Jan Lorimor in 1976 and on their first date told her, “I’m going to marry you.” They were married on May 28, 1978 in Phillipsburg, Kansas. They celebrated their 40th Anniversary while in Columbus, Ohio for Mike’s most recent cancer treatment trial. Mike and Jan had two children, Bethany Allison Case and Barrett Lance Case. Mike loved his family and they have many cherished memories and stories of their time with him. Mike was absolutely crazy about his grandchildren and adored being their “Papa Mike.” Mike’s civilian job was with the Natural Resources Conservation Service as a Soil Conservation Technician. He spent 33 years working with farmers, staking terraces, and cursing the computers. He and Jan were only going to live in Greensburg for 3-5 years until his job transferred him. 40 years later, Greensburg is home—the community Mike loved. He was involved in several clubs and organizations (First Baptist Church, American Legion, V.F.W., Kiowa County Housing Authority, Kiowa County Hospital Board, Fairview Cemetery Board) and could be found visiting at the Senior Center and other spots all over town. He was so thankful for the support of his friends and community over the last several years. Preceding him in death were his parents and two of his brothers, Gary Case and Doug Case. He is survived by his wife Jan, of the home; his daughter, Bethany Wood and husband Micah of Satanta, Kansas; his son, Barrett Case and wife Meghann of Rich Hill, Missouri; five grandchildren, Diamond, Jasmine, Elly, Hannah, and Silas Wood; one brother, Jon Case and wife Margarita of Batesville, Indiana; sister-in-law, Sandye Jarvis and husband Max of Phillipsburg, Kansas; brothers-in-law, Lee Lorimor and wife Rovilla of Wichita, Kansas, and Scott Lorimor and wife Lynn of Olathe, Kansas; two uncles, James Miller and wife Joanne of Phillipsburg, Kansas and James Usrey of Sierra Vista, Arizona; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Mike was a man of deep, deep faith in Jesus Christ and trusted in Him throughout his life. He was welcomed home by his Heavenly Father, and is in His presence rejoicing now and forevermore. Funeral services and celebration of Mike’s life will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 21, 2018 at the First Baptist Church, Greensburg with Pastors Nick Sterner and Barrett Case presiding. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Greensburg. A visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church, Greensburg and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in care of Fleener Funeral Home, PO Box 41, Greensburg, Kansas 67054.
