Greensburg- Nita Gay Kilgore, 87, died December 5, 2024, at Hill Top House, Bucklin, Kansas. She was born April 29, 1937, in Ashland, Kansas, the daughter of Oscar and Alice Bailey. Nita grew up in rural Mullinville and graduated from Mullinville High School in 1955 and attended Fort Hays College. She lived in rural Mullinville until her marriage in 1957 and from this time on, she lived in Greensburg, Kansas. On October 17, 1957, Nita married Robert “Bob” Kilgore near Mullinville. She was a secretary at Greensburg High School for most of her career. Nita was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Greensburg, where she was active in choir and bell choir. She was in a bridge club and enjoyed going on Village Bus Tours with the bell choir. She is survived by her husband, Robert. Other survivors include a son Jeff Kilgore and wife Rena, Ozawkie, Kansas, two daughters Karla Johnston and husband James, Hays, Kansas, and Kayla Queen and husband Mark, Manhattan, Kansas, nine Grandchildren; Elexia Kilgore (Ben Chipman), Ted Kilgore, Jill Kilgore (Tyler Brown), Kelsie Johnston, Christian Johnston, Bryan Queen (Holly), Kristen Klug (Chris), Keli Hess (Chris), Laura Bender (Tim), eight Great-grandchildren; Ruby Chipman, Jonah and Theo Klug, Kash Hess, Thomas and Jacob Bender, Shay and Ellis Logsdon, and a brother Jack Bailey and wife LaDean, Great Bend, Kansas. Nita was preceded in death by a grandson David Queen. Funeral Services and celebration of Nita’s life will be held 10:30 am, Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at the Greensburg Methodist Church, Greensburg, with Pastors Dennis Irwin and Terry Mayhew presiding. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Greensburg. A visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 pm Tuesday at Fleener Funeral Home, Greensburg. Memorials are suggested to the Greensburg Methodist Church, the Kiowa County Senior Center, Greensburg, Home Again Senior Living, Haviland, and the Hill Top House, Bucklin, in care of Fleener Funeral Home, 514 S. Main St., PO Box 41, Greensburg, KS 67054-0041.
