Gridley- Richard L. Jantz, 75, died October 29, 2017 at Via Christi Hospital, Wichita, Kansas. He was born December 31, 1941 in Margie, Minnesota, the son of Wesley Edwin and Evelyn (Ratzlaff) Jantz. Richard graduated from Greensburg High School in 1960 and then served four years in the United Stated Navy. He went on the Honor Flight last year and had served as the Post Commander of the Haviland American Legion. Richard had lived in Haviland and Gridley, Kansas. He had worked in Grain Elevators, and was the owner/ operator of the hardware store, the Corner Grocery and R J’s Café, all in Haviland. On August 10, 1972 Richard married Mabel Gifford in Protection, Kansas. She survives. Other survivors include two sons Robert Jantz, Detroit, Michigan and Todd Mayhew (Janet) , Pittsburg, Kansas, two daughters Sandra Fankhauser (David), Sterling, Kansas, and Heather Jantz, Gridley, four brothers John Jantz (Angelika), Denver, Colorado, Wesley Jantz (Marilyn), Haviland, Jerry Jantz (Jeannie), McClouth, Kansas, Dennis Jantz (Marilyn) Hutchinson, Kansas, two sisters Esther Robinson, Louisville, Kansas, Ann Gardner (Earl), Pratt, Kansas, six Grandchildren Chelsey Mathias, Steven Fankhauser, Brian Parra, Madison Parra, Emma Mayhew, Kaylee Isch, two Great-grandchildren Kaydee Mathias and Jace Mathias. Richard was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers Rudy, Bobby and Eddie Jantz. Funeral services and celebration of Richard’s life will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 3, 2017 at the Haviland United Methodist Church, Haviland with Pastor Lee Jantz and Rev. Mark Fillmore presiding. Burial will follow in Haviland Cemetery. A visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday at Fleener Funeral Home, Greensburg. Memorials are suggested to the Southern Coffey County Honor Flight in care of Fleener Funeral Home, PO Box 41, 514 S. Main St. Greensburg, KS 67054.
