Haviland- Richard M. “Dick” Haraldson, 77, died peacefully at his home in Haviland, Kansas October 20, 2014. He was born August 14, 1937 at Devil’s Lake, North Dakota, the son of Marlo Orlando and Clara (Somdalen) Haraldson. Dick graduated from Central High School, Grand Forks, North Dakota. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he served twenty years in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1975. He later worked as a detention officer in Greensburg and Pratt, Kansas. He was a member of the American Legion Post 4, Enid, Oklahoma. In 1958 Dick married Elsie Little in Greensburg. She preceded him in death. On September 27, 2006 Richard married Bessie Louthan. She survives. Other survivors include a son Thomas A. Zumalt and wife Toni, Enid, a daughter Paula Thrasher, Kansas City, Kansas, three grandchildren Stacy Fratzel and husband Kyle, Bonner Springs, Kansas and Dalton J. and Ciara Zumalt, one Great-grandchild Isiah Fratzel and many other relatives and friends. Dick was also preceded in death by his parents, and a sister Phyllis Pickering. Funeral services and celebration of Dick’s life were held 2:00 p.m. October 24, 2014 at Fleener Funeral Home, Greensburg with Pastor Jeff Miller presiding. Burial with military honors followed in Fairview Cemetery, Greensburg. Memorials are suggested to South Wind Hospice House, Pratt in care of Fleener Funeral Home, 514 S. Main St., Greensburg, Kansas.
