Ruth Maxine Nash
Greensburg – Maxine Nash, 94, passed away at Hospice House in Hutchinson, Kansas on October 19, 2014. Maxine was born on February 29, 1920 in Coats, Kansas to Ellis, Sr. and Hallie Mable Trask Huitt. She graduated from Coats High School and Pratt College.
Maxine married Truman Earl Nash on August 19, 1939 at the Methodist Parsonage, Coats. After World War II, the couple moved to Greensburg, Kansas. Maxine continued to live there until the tornado of 2007 and then she moved to South Hutchinson.
Maxine worked at the Kiowa County Library for 40 years. She was a Board Member of the Area Girl Scout Council. She was a fifty plus year member of the Chapter AH P.E.O. Maxine and Truman were fifty year plus members of the First United Methodist Church and taught Sunday School there for many years, and Maxine was active in United Methodist Women. She was a lifetime member of the Agenda Club and her sewing club. Maxine was a longtime member of Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Order of the Eastern Star, all of Greensburg.
Maxine was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, her parents and a sister, Karen Huitt. Maxine is survived by a son and his wife, Rod and Beverly Nash of Hutchinson, Kansas; daughter Ruthanne Nash and husband Jim Garrett, Little Rock, Arkansas; four Granddaughters: Jennifer Nash of Arlington, Massachusetts; Jill Nash Malool and husband Mark of Marietta, Georgia; Sarah Murphy and Rachel Murphy, Little Rock; brothers Ellis, Jr. and Phyllis Huitt of Cullison, Kansas and Curt Huitt of Pratt, Kansas; Sister-in-law Elizabeth Nash of Newton, Kansas and many nieces and nephews.
Private burial will be at the Coats Cemetery in Coats. Memorial Service will be at the Greensburg First United Methodist Church in Greensburg on October 22, 2014 at 11 AM. Family will visit friends 5-7 Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials should be made to Girl Scouts – Local Troop, The First United Methodist Church, and the Kiowa County Library Summer Reading Program, all of Greensburg, in care of Fleener Funeral Home, 514 S. Main, Greensburg, Kansas, 67054.
