Greensburg-Sonia Lou Hadley (Sayre), daughter of Bernal and Dorothy (Ralstin) Sayre, was born on April 11, 1937 at Wichita, Kansas. Sonia attended school in Mullinville and graduated in 1955. Sonia planned to marry her high school sweetheart as soon as she graduated from high school. A near fatal car accident just before Sonia graduated put their wedding plans on hold. On November 12, 1955 she married Niles Hadley at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Mullinville. Niles was serving in the army at the time. Three weeks after they were married, he left for a tour of duty in Korea. In January of 1957 he returned home. Upon Niles returning from the Army, they lived in Greensburg before leaving the area for Niles to attend college and work. Niles and Sonia returned to Mullinville in1964 where Niles was employed at the First State Bank and entered into farming and ranching. Sonia returned to work in 1973 at the Bradly and Waldorf Clinic where she retired from in 1995. In 1991 Niles and Sonia moved their family to Greensburg temporarily while their youngest daughter Sindi finished high school after the school closed in Mullinville. They enjoyed living in Greensburg and decided to make it permanent in the fall of 1992. Niles and his wife Sonia were blessed with four wonderful children: Steven, Staci, Shari and Sindi. They were always busy as a family, very involved in community, church and school activities. The school calendar certainly dictated the family schedule while the kids were school age. Sonia enjoyed over the years watching both her children and grandchildren participate in plays, concerts and sports. Although she rarely saw the end of a ball game because it just made her too nervous. Family was always important for Niles and Sonia. Sitting down for a meal as a family was a priority whether it meant waiting to eat till after late basketball practice or at midnight when everyone was out of the harvest field. Tucking kids in at night and later listening to problems and offering advice were a few of the many things Mom did with expertise. Niles and Sonia celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in November of 2010. Niles preceded her in death on February 9, 2011.The Hadley family has grown from 2 to 26. Steve married Brenda Stoppel. They reside in Wichita. Their sons are Brandon and wife, Nicole; Bryant and wife, Sarah; and Bruce and fiancé, Trisha. Staci is married to Luke Derstein and lives in Greensburg. They have a son, Thomas. Shari married Michael Smith. Her children are Marissa, Shelby and Chloe. They live in Bridgeport, TX. Sindi is married to Mark Lohrding of Coldwater. Their children are Cole, Cade, Cody and Hadley. Great-grandchildren include Michael and Johnathan Hadley. Sonia’s family, her grandchildren, and great-grandsons were always a source of great pride and joy for her. She felt blessed to have a loving husband and family for more than 55 years. Her family was also blessed with a loving wife, mother and Nana.
