Haviland- Viona Elizabeth Whitney, 87, died April 1, 2016 at Hilltop Manor, Cunningham, Kansas. She was born September 13, 1928, and grew up in rural Edwards County, Kansas, the daughter of John Franklin and Opal Irene (Wilkinson) Brown. She graduated from Haviland High School in 1947 and became a lifetime resident of Haviland, Kansas. She was a bookkeeper for the Haviland Telephone Company for 28 years. Her memberships included the Haviland United Methodist Church, and the Jr. SOS Club, both of Haviland and several Gem and Mineral Societies. On June 13, 1948, Viona married Duward Whitney in Haviland. He preceded her in death October 10, 2012.Survivors include two sons Brad and wife Patricia Whitney, Blanchard, Oklahoma, Keith and wife Barbara Whitney, Fowler, Kansas, two daughters Marjorie Thompson and husband Steve, Haviland, Janice Williams, Great Bend, Kansas, eleven Grandchildren, Brandon Thompson, Brady Thompson, Brooke Thompson, Bethany McGlothlin, Lisa James, Jared Disney, Brock Whitney, Regena Bryant, Alana Whitney, Jerae Rinehart, and Tyson Whitney, eighteen Great-grandchildren and a sister Zona Finch, Bartlesville, OKlahoma. She was also preceded in death by three Grandchildren, Brett Lynne Thompson, Marla Elaine Disney, and Sarah Kate Whitney, five brothers Homer, Hap, Dude, Sam and George Brown, and three sisters Zita Corbet, Zelma Sanford and Zora Brown. Funeral services and celebration of Viona’s life will be held 10:30 am Monday, April 4, 2016 at the Haviland United Methodist Church, Haviland with Rev. Mark Fillmore presiding. Burial will follow in Haviland Cemetery, Haviland. Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 pm Sunday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Haviland United Methodist Church and the Heart of America Science Resource Center, both of Haviland, in care of Fleener Funeral Home, Greensburg, Kansas 67054.
