Greensburg- Walter H. Williams, 90, died November 26, 2013 at South Wind Hospice House, Pratt, Kansas. He was born December 14, 1922 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Arch L. and Josephine Angeline (Schemkemper) Williams. A lifetime resident of Greensburg, Walter graduated from Greensburg High School in 1941. He was a World War II Veteran serving in the U.S. Army stationed in the Pacific Theater. He retired as the Assistant Postmaster at the Greensburg Post Office. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Greensburg, and enjoyed being a Ham radio operator. On June 26, 1948 Walter married Marjorie Rinker in Greensburg. She survives. Other survivors include a son Trenton and wife Mary Williams, Euless, Texas, a daughter Trudy and husband Rick Schmidt, Greensburg, four Grandchildren Lee and wife Shanna Schmidt, Newton, Kansas, Krista and husband Michael Fisher, Folsom, California, Gentry and husband Jeff Doggendorf, Holly Springs, North Carolina, and Kari and husband Mike Armstrong, Folsom, California, and eleven Great-grandchildren. Funeral services and celebration of Walter’s life will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 30, 2013 at the First Baptist Church, Greensburg with Pastor Jeffrey D. Blackburn and Rev. Franklin Ruff officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Greensburg. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association and the Salvation Army, both in care of Fleener Funeral Home, 514 S. Main St., Greensburg, Kansas, 67054.
