Greensburg- Wesley Willie Wedel, 98, died October 26, 2014 at the Kiowa County Memorial Hospital, Greensburg, Kansas. He was born September 10, 1916 in rural Greensburg, the son of Abraham Cornelius and Lena (Koehn) Wedel. Wesley had lived in Greensburg and the Seattle, Washington area. He was a farmer and feed mill operator. In 1939 Wesley married Dorothy Ruth Underwood in Pratt Kansas. He later married Martha Janson Theobald in Dodge City, Kansas. She preceded him in death. He attended the Greensburg Mennonite Church. Wesley is survived by one son Robert “Bob” Wedel and wife Ruth Ann, Greensburg, two step-daughters Karen Fox and husband Charles, Seattle, Washington, and Judy Helwig and husband Gary, Great Bend, Kansas, seven Grandchildren and fifteen Great-grandchildren and one Great-great grandchild. Wesley was also preceded by one infant son, three infant daughters, a step-son Robert Theobald, and two brothers Dewey and Jess Wedel.
Funeral services and celebration of Wesley’s life will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 31, 2014 at the Greensburg Mennonite Church with Rev. Jeffrey D. Blackburn officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Greensburg. A visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday at Fleener Funeral Home, Greensburg. Memorials are suggested to South Central Kansas Youth for Christ-Camp Scholarships and Samaritans Purse, both in care of Fleener Funeral Home, 514 S. Main St., Greensburg, Kansas, 67054.
