William “Bill” Freeman

d. August 13, 2016

William “Bill” Lawrence Freeman, 62, died Saturday, August 13, 2016 at his home in Greensburg, Kansas. He leaves behind his wife Susan McEwen Horn Freeman, Greensburg, daughters Jateice (Morgan) Vieux, Meade, Kansas and Jennifer (Patrick) Janssen, Kinsley, Kansas, a step son Eric Horn, Greensburg, a brother Gilbert (Carla) Freeman, Meade, a sister Barbara (Lloyd) Long, Bucklin, Kansas. He was known as Papa to three grandchildren; Ryker Vieux, Aveta Vieux, and Adele Janssen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Leta Freeman. Bill was born on January 2, 1954 and lived at Clark County Lake where his father was the care taker for numerous years. They later moved to Kingsdown, Kansas and Bill graduated from Bucklin High School in 1972. After graduation he lived in several towns in Kansas including Meade, Dodge City, and Wichita before making Greensburg his permanent home. He was married to the late Becky Freeman for 17 years and worked for Dwane Shank Motors as an automotive technician for 30+ years before retiring in 2007. Bill was a lifelong lover of the outdoors and animals. He spent his childhood catching, caring for, and releasing animals back into the wild. He continued spending time outside by teaching his daughters to fish and seine minnows. He had a big heart for abandoned animals and he frequently adopted those he felt were in need. He married his longtime friend Susan McEwen Horn on October 24, 2009. He loved surprising her with poetry and trinket boxes. She shared his love of country roads and animals. He enjoyed long car rides on back county roads and Dallas Cowboy games on TV. In 2014 he had the time of this life when he visited AT&T stadium in Arlington and watched his Boys beat the Indianapolis Colts and clinch a spot in the playoffs for the first time in years. He loved to garden and cook. His mother had taught him how to make a great tasting meal with just a few ingredients and in turn he taught his children to do the same. He loved working with his hands whether that be tinkering under the hood of a car or turning pieces of wood into gifts for others. He made sure that Adele and Ryker had handmade boxes to store their most important treasures in.
